The Main Library is served by DATA bus routes 16, 16B, 3, 4, 9.

From Raleigh on I-40

Take the Durham Freeway (NC 147) north into town. Get off at the "Roxboro St" exit, Exit 12-B. Go right at the light at the end of the ramp. The library is about .5 miles up the road on the corner of Liberty St and Roxboro St at the first traffic light after Main St. Turn right on Liberty St (one way) and immediately get into left lane to turn left into our parking lot.

From Raleigh/East Durham on US 70

Take US 70 Business West into town. In town, US 70 Business becomes Holloway St. After crossing Dillard St at the traffic light, turn left into the second driveway (the first belongs to WTVD-11) and the Library parking lot.

From North Durham on I-85

From I-85, take the "Downtown-Roxboro St-Avondale Dr" exit, Exit 177A (also says "Visitor's Center"). Follow the signs for Roxboro St South into downtown (15-501 Business South). Roxboro Street/15-501 Business South becomes Mangum Street. At the light for the Downtown Loop/Chapel Hill St, turn left into Chapel Hill St (there is a flower bed and fountain on the left). Continue to the next traffic light (Roxboro St), cross over Roxboro St, and immediately turn left into our parking lot.

From Duke and West Durham

Take the Durham Freeway (NC 147) South (enter the Freeway from 15-501 By-Pass, Fulton Street, Trent Drive, or Swift Avenue). Exit the freeway at the "Mangum St-Roxboro St" exit, Exit 12. Go through one traffic light (Mangum St) and down the hill. Turn left at the next traffic light onto Roxboro St (one way). The library is .5 miles up the road at the first traffic light after Main Street; turn right on Liberty (one way street), get into the left lane immediately and turn left into our parking lot.

From Chapel Hill or Southwest Durham

Take US 15-501 Business north into town (past South Square--don't take the By-Pass). At the intersection with University Drive, turn left following US 15-501 Business North(the flow of traffic takes you onto Roxboro Street following 15-501 North). At the intersection with Roxboro St, turn left to continue on 15-501 Business North. The library is about .5 miles up the road on the corner of Liberty St and Roxboro St at the first traffic light after Main St. Turn right on Liberty St (one way) and immediately get into left lane to turn left into our parking lot.

From Hillsborough and points west on I-85

1. If you are familiar with US 70 in west Durham or US 15-501 By-Pass around west Durham: Go to the intersection of the Durham Freeway (NC 147) with the 15-501 By-Pass (you can do this from 15-501 coming from either Hillsborough Road or from Chapel Hill). Get on the Durham Freeway (NC 147) South and go towards downtown. Exit the Freeway at the "Mangum St-Roxboro St" exit, Exit 12. Go through one traffic light (Mangum St) and down the hill. Turn left at the next traffic light onto Roxboro St (one way). The library is .5 miles up the road at the first traffic light after Main Street; turn right on Liberty (one way street), get into the left lane immediately and turn left into our parking lot.

2. If you prefer to go around Durham to the North on I-85/US 15-501 By-Pass: Stay on I-85 north past Northgate Mall. Take the "Downtown-Roxboro St-Avondale Dr" exit, Exit 177A (also says "Visitor's Center"). Follow the signs for Roxboro St South into downtown (15-501 Business South). From South Durham or NCCU

Take Fayetteville St north towards downtown. After crossing Main St, Fayetteville St becomes Elizabeth St. Turn left at the traffic light at Holloway St. After crossing Dillard St at the traffic light, turn left into the second driveway (the first belongs to WTVD-11) and the Library parking lot.
