Receive Library Notices By Email!

You may now receive notices of reserves and overdue materials through your personal email account. To do so, simply complete the form below with all information requested.  Please note a few guidelines:

  1. Email addresses submitted to the Durham County Library for the purpose of receiving reserve and overdue notices will not be used for any other purpose or given to anyone else.
  2. Durham County Library email notices will be emailed to the address you submit without regard for who else may have access to the account.  If your email account is a shared one, you should be aware that those you share it with may see your library email notices.
  3. Only the first notice of material being held or an overdue item will be sent by email. Subsequent notices will be sent by phone or mail.
  4. All notices for juveniles (patrons under 18 years of age) in all formats, including email, are directed to the parent or guardian who signed for the juvenile's library card. The parent or guardian who signed for the card must use their email address.

Questions regarding email notices should be directed to our circulation staff at 919-560-0131.

Please Note: The Durham County Library sends holds and overdue email notifications through an automated system on a daily basis. It has come to our attention that some customers, particularly those with Time Warner Cable Roadrunner as their Internet service provider, have not been receiving their email notifications. If you are experiencing problems receiving reminders, please check with your Internet service provider to make sure the library’s emails are not being blocked or filtered.

Library Elf Reminder Service: Library Elf is a third-party web service that allows you to get overdue and hold alerts from the Durham County Library. You can get this service in addition to our phone and email reminder system, as Library Elf provides additional features that complement our service. These features include email and RSS alerts before the items are due; alerts on overdues and holds; the ability to set up a consolidated list of your family's library loans and holds; and cellphone text message alerts for your holds.

If you would like to sign up for this third-party service, you can create an account at Library Elf. Please be sure to read their Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
