The Global Home Furnishings Market takes over High Point for part of each year. It's just Deborah's luck that she's working there one of those weeks and doesn't have a hotel reservation. With 70,000 visitors in town, there's no hope of a room at any inn, but she meets a nice but eccentric lady who takes her to some of the fancy cocktail parties in several opulent showrooms where she runs into a friend from law school, finally finds a place to stay for the night, and loses her purse...which is found next to the dead body of a man she knew when she was a 19-year-old living in Maryland.
