Shooting at Loons
Filling in for a sick Carteret County judge, Deborah heads for the Outer Banks and her cousin Carl's small, shabby Harkers Island cottage for a week. While she's hoping for a quiet vacation when not hearing cases, what she finds is a fisherman in shallow water who's been shot to death. The deceased was likeable, but he was also smack-dab in the middle of a smoldering conflict between fisherman, land developers, preservationists, and conservationists in the picturesque area. The professional and the personal blend even more when Deborah's former love from law school becomes a suspect, and she starts dating wildlife officer Kidd Chapin.
