| Biographical/Historical Note: | Now the Durham Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, the Durham Council on Alcoholism was founded in 1958 to provide county-wide services for education on and prevention of alcoholism, as well as for the treatment and rehabilitation of alcoholics. The council’s primary activities are conducted through the Alcoholism Information Center, and have included community and school education and industry programs and court advocacy. Olga Davis served as the first executive director of the center, and Dr. Thomas T. Jones served as the organization’s first president. |
