The World War II scrapbooks were compiled by Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Cannon, Mr. and Mrs. George Lougee, and Miss Frances Barnette. The scrapbook compilers’s stated intent was to include photographs of all white servicemen and servicewomen from the Durham area beginning January 1, 1943 through the end of the war. The original clippings are organized in seven scrapbooks. An article on the project is located in volume 5, p. 5. The clippings are not dated.

The scrapbooks are available on microfilm in the Periodicals Department of Durham County Library. Out-of-county customers may request a copy of the entry for a particular name by contacting North Carolina Collection librarian Lynn Richardson. Please include the serviceman’s full name, volume and page numbers, and your mailing address. The cost is 20 cents per page plus $5 postage and handling.
