Technology Training Room Policy
I. PURPOSE
The purpose of the Technology Training Room policy is to provide a basis for consistent service to all groups who request use of the room and to clarify the responsibility of both library staff and customers with regard to its use.
II. POLICY STATEMENT
The Durham County Library maintains a Technology Training Room which may be used for lawful public use. All meetings and training sessions must be free and open to the public with the exception of Durham County Library staff training.
The library’s Technology Training Room is available to serve the Durham community’s technology-related training needs. Library staff actively support local computer education initiatives by making this facility available to the public. Community groups are incorporating technology into their curriculums and services, and the Durham County Library staff is pleased to provide the tools they need to reach their internal objectives. Representatives from clubs, organizations, businesses and educational institutions may use the facility to provide training in using computers, the Internet, office suite software, electronic databases and other related topics. Training in subject areas not requiring computer activity should take place in one of the library’s other meeting rooms.
As with other library meeting facilities, the Technology Training Room is not to be reserved for:
- a regular meeting place or base of operation by any club or organization, nor is it to be used on a regular continuing basis.
- sales or promotional purposes by any business or profit-making organization.
- individual private use (such as a tutoring session).
Fees are not permitted for any activity taking place in the Technology Training Room except as defined in the Durham County Library Co-Sponsored Program and Exhibit Policy.
Users of the library’s Technology Training Room should take care to leave all equipment in the same condition in which it is found. Harming the equipment, changing or installing files on the library’s hardware or otherwise attempting to access unauthorized files or systems is not permitted, and such activities may result in loss of system privileges, financial responsibility for damaged equipment, disbarment from library premises and/or criminal prosecution.
The applicant for use of the room carries responsibility for ensuring that class participants use the Internet in accordance with the Durham County Library Internet Use Policy as posted in the facility.
Reservations for the Technology Training Room will be accepted on a meeting-to-meeting basis. Application must be made in writing at least two (2) days in advance and no more than 90 days in advance. Meetings cannot exceed room capacity as determined by the Durham County Fire Marshal.
III. APPLICABILITY
This policy applies to all users of the Technology Training Room not sponsored or co-sponsored by the Durham County Library.
IV. RESPONSIBILITY
The Technology Management Administrator holds responsibility for interpreting, monitoring and recommending changes to this policy. The Library Director is the final authority with regard to requests for reconsideration of decisions about use of the Technology Training Room.
