This is a site not just for fiction, but all things western, a site that defines the Old West as a state of mind-"reflecting the legend and reality of 19th Century American west." It has almost any topic that can be imagined: buffalo cowboys, museums, photographs, trading posts, TV and radio westerns, etc., as well as lists of authors and novels and a few online novels.
An online magazine "honoring authors of Western Literature," this site has links to authors, book reviews, poetry, and news of interest to western readers. It includes the Spur Award winners, with information about the books and their authors and also has a section of short fiction that you can read online. A calendar lists where authors will be reading across the country.
This page gives a list of the current awards in the following categories: Western novel, childrens book, nonfiction book, poetry, magazine article, and art book. The awards are given annually by the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Also listed are the best western films of all time.
The WWA is an organization primarily of writers, the group that gives the Spur Award for the best western novels every year, and this is their official website, with the usual information on dues, conventions, etc. But it also provides an excellent online magazine, Roundup, which has a wealth of current information of new western books, as well as articles about their authors and other subjects of general interest.
This is another organizational website, an important one from which you can connect with women writers, publishers, editors, and others interested in telling the stories of the women who lived in the west. The site has author links and samples from their newsletter.
