Reader of the Week
Each week during Summer Reading (June 15 – August 10) the library will highlight one exceptional student. Reading helps students retain academic gains over the long summer months, and reading is just plain fun, so the library encourages everyone to read every day. Children, teens and adults can earn prizes by reading, visiting the library, participating in programs and using online resources.
Iyanna Williams - Week of July 29
Durham County Library’s seventh Summer Reader of the Week is Iyanna Williams. Iyanna is 11 years old, and her favorite library is the Stanford L. Warren Branch. She attends Lucas Middle School. Iyanna's favorite book is Thirteen by Lauren Myracle. She wants to be a scientist and a veterinarian when she grows up.
Susanna Holter - Week of July 22
Susanna Holter is Durham County Library’s sixth Summer Reader of the Week. Susanna is 11 years old and is home schooled. Her favorite library location is Southwest Regional, and her favorite book is The Princess of Wild Swans by Diane Zahler. Susanna has a special power: she can cure her hiccups by singing One Direction. Susanna is also completely obsessed with cupcakes.
Nicole Hiemenz - Week of July 15
Durham County Library’s fifth Summer Reader of the Week is Nicole Hiemenz. Nicole is a fourteen-year-old student at the Durham School of the Arts. She regularly visits the South Regional Library with her family. Her first big series that she loved was Harry Potter. Recently, she finished reading the Mortal Instruments series and loved it. When she’s not busy reading, Nicole loves to watch Supernatural, Doctor Who and Sherlock.
Milia Mendoza - Week of July 8
Milia Mendoza is Durham County Library’s fourth Summer Reader of the Week. Milia is 6 years old and attends Glenn Elementary School. Her favorite books are the Max Spaniel series by David Catrow. Milia visits North Regional Library and wants to be a singer when she grows up.
Darius McCrae - Week of July 1
Durham County Library’s third Summer Reader of the Week is Darius McCrae. Darius is 9 years old and attends Burton Elementary School. His favorite books are the graphic novels Lego Ninjago, Masters of Spinjitzu, written by Greg Farshtey and illustrated by Jolyon Yates. Darius is a McDougald Terrace Community Library patron, and says, “I want to be an artist when I grow up, because I love to paint and draw.”
Angelina Green - Week of June 24
Durham County Library's Week Two Summer Reader is Angelina Green. Angelina is 11 years old and attends W. G. Pearson Elementary School. Her favorite series is the Goddess Girls by Joan Holub and Suzanne Williams, and she is currently reading Pheme the Gossip. Angelina visits the Main Library everyday during the summer with her 8-year-old brother Amir. She wants to be a doctor when she grows up.
Robert Anthony Nash - Week of June 17
Durham County Library’s first Summer Reader of the Week is Robert Anthony Nash. Robert Anthony is 11 years old and attends Shepard IB Middle School. His favorite book is Prodigy by Marie Lu. Robert Anthony plans to be an engineer and live in Chicago when he grows up. His favorite Durham County Library is East Regional.
